“And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.”

-Acts 2:4

“The effect of the sacrament of confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.” (CCC 1302)
St. Basil the Great confirms candidates in the spring of 10th grade. The CHOSEN confirmation program is a 2 year program that begins in 9th grade.

Please join us for a parent/teen information meeting on either Sunday, August 30th at 6:30pm in the Church or Monday, August 31st at 6:30pm in the Church. We ask that at least one parent and teen attend the session. Masks will be worn, and social distancing will be practiced.
Please register for your session in advance!

“A candidate for Confirmation who has attained the age of reason must profess the faith, be in the state of grace, have the intention of receiving the sacrament, and be prepared to assume the role of disciple and witness to Christ, both within the ecclesial community and in temporal affairs.”(CCC 1319)
Confirmation preparation is a time to grow in a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith and the sacrament of Confirmation. In order to aid parents in passing on the Catholic faith we recommend…
– weekly participation in Sunday mass
– weekly attendance to Life Teen
– attendance on at least 1 retreat
– attending all 12 CHOSEN sessions

Due by September 30, 2020
If your teen will be a freshman in Fall 2020 and will be confirmed as a sophomore in the Spring 2022 please apply below. The cost of materials is $60. Be sure that you receive a confirmation email to verify that the form was completed.
*You will need to upload an electronic copy of the candidates baptismal certificate in order to complete the form. You can upload a file from your computer OR use your phone to fill out the form and take a picture directly in the camera app.

In order to better understand each candidate and their parents we ask that both parents and candidates submit a brief essay, around 250 words. This helps us to know a little bit about each candidate before their confirmation interview. You can access the essay form by clicking the links below. Essays are due by September 30, 2020.
1. What role does faith play in your life right now?
2. How do you envision living out your faith in the future? (college, career, vocation etc.)
3. Do you want to get confirmed? Why or why not?
1. What steps have you taken to share the faith with your son/daughter?
2.What role do you envision faith playing in the life of your son/daughter, both now and into the future?
3. Do you want your son/daughter to be confirmed? Why or why not?

St. Basil is a large parish and CHOSEN is a large program. It can be difficult to address the needs and concerns of each candidate is such a large setting. In order to get to know each candidate, all candidates will go through two confirmation interviews. The first will take place at the beginning of the candidate’s 9th grade year and the second will take place at the beginning of the candidate’s 10th grade year.
You can schedule a time to meet with Erin by clicking the link below.
Interviews run mid-August – October

We ask that in order to prepare for Confirmation, candidates attend Life Teen every week as well as all CHOSEN Confirmation sessions. There are no make-up sessions for Life Teen or CHOSEN. There are however make-up materials online for the CHOSEN program. You will receive an email with instructions on how to access the materials following the first CHOSEN session on October 5th, 2020. If you need info on how to log in contact Erin Hogan.
This year, CHOSEN sessions will take place on the first Monday and Wednesday of the month. Please sign your teen up for one of those two dates. This will remain their meeting date and time for the duration of the 2020-2021 year. Offering two session options will decrease the number of people each child comes into contact with, and it will allow us to facilitate social distancing at our meetings.
You can access the online CHOSEN materials by clicking the link below.

A Sponsor for Confirmation should be:
  • A practicing, faith-filled Catholic already fully initiated into the faith. (Has received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation)
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Can not be a parent of the candidate.
  • Able to form a relationship with the Candidate and willing to share his/her own experience of faith.
  • Willing to give the time to participate in the sacramental preparation process and to pray for the Candidate.
All confirmation sponsors must provide a sponsor certificate.
This form will be provided by the sponsor’s home parish and will need to be signed by their parish priest and returned to Judy Paffilas at the Parish Office. This certificate confirms that they are a registered and participating member of the Christian community.
When choosing your Confirmation name, keep the following in mind:
  • You may be confirmed in your Baptismal name. By keeping your Baptismal name, rather than choosing a new Confirmation name, it reaffirms your Baptismal name and strengthens the connection between the two sacraments.
  • If a new name is chosen, selecting a saint’s name is common practice. One should choose a saint they admire and wish to emulate in the Christian life.
If you would like to choose a new name check out the article below to help you get started.
Sponsors and Confirmation names do not have to be chosen until June of 2021. We encourage you and your teen to take time to discern their confirmation name and sponsor. When they are ready they can fill out the form below.
Due June 30, 2021
